My research lies at the interface between life sciences, atmospheric science, and geoscience, concerning the human health implications of exposure to atmospheric pollutants including volcanic aerosols. It involves direct sampling of urban and volcanic aerosols (the non-silicate fraction, sometimes referred to as ‘vog’), analysis and modelling of aerosol chemistry, and assessment of potential health impacts using cell viability and toxicological assays.
